From complex ECM proteins to peptide-based coatings such as Poly-D-Lysine (PDL) and Poly-L-Lysine (PLL): biologically functionalized cell culture surfaces provide the key prerequisites for stable cell attachment and physiologically relevant cell behavior. Protein and peptide coatings deliver essential signals from the cellular microenvironment and thereby promote cell adhesion, proliferation, and differentiation.
Pre-coated cell culture vessels – e.g., with ECM proteins such as collagen, laminin, and fibronectin as well as peptide-based coatings like PDL and PLL – offer a consistent, ready-to-use solution for sensitive primary cells, stem cells, and neuronal cells. Especially under serum-free or serum-reduced conditions, when natural adhesion factors are missing, a defined coating enables reproducible attachment and uniform growth.
Strong and homogeneous cell attachment reduces cell loss during washing steps and demanding applications such as transfection or differentiation. The result: more robust experiments, improved reproducibility, and more reliable assay performance. With the right coating, you can also achieve more physiologically relevant cell behavior – an important basis for robust data in research, development, and screening.

Choose the optimal coating for your cell culture
Poly-D-Lysine (PDL) & Poly-L-Lysine (PLL)
Synthetic positively charged polymers that enhance electrostatic cell attachment – without intrinsic biological activity. Poly-lysine coatings are commonly used for neuronal cells, transfected cells, and fastidious cell lines. Poly-D-lysine is particularly resistant to enzymatic degradation and is therefore ideal for long-term cultures and demanding experimental workflows.
Collagen Type I
An important structural protein of the extracellular matrix (ECM) that supports cell attachment, cell spreading, and physiologically relevant cell behavior. Collagen type I is particularly suitable for primary cells and transfected cells – e.g., epithelial cells, fibroblasts, hepatocytes, and muscle cells – and is ideal for applications such as differentiation studies, cell–matrix interactions, and drug screening.
Laminin
A key component of the basement membrane with multiple binding domains for integrins and other ECM proteins. Laminin coatings promote adhesion, growth, and differentiation of sensitive cell types such as neuronal (stem) cells, epithelial cells, and endothelial cells. Particularly suitable for questions related to differentiation, migration, and chemotaxis.
Fibronectin
An ECM protein that supports cell adhesion and cell spreading via integrin binding sites. Fibronectin is frequently used for adhesion assays and is particularly helpful for cultures under serum-free or defined conditions, where natural adhesion factors are limited.
