HOMOCYSTEINE TUBES

VACUETTE® homocysteine tubes are used to stabilize the in vivo homocysteine concentration.

Homocysteine tubes from Greiner Bio-One contain a buffered sodium citrate/citric acid solution (pH = 4.2).

Due to the dilution effect of the stabilizer, the result must be multiplied by a factor of 1.11. This compensates the dilution by the citrate.

Homocysteine is produced in cell metabolism as an intermediate product during the breakdown of methionine. An increased homocysteine concentration in the blood increases the risk of cardio- and cerebrovascular occlusions.
